What is the Morning After Pill ?

The Morning After Pill is levonorgestrel.   It is an emergency contraceptive hormone that can prevent pregnancy up to 72 hrs after unprotected sex, or failure of a utilized contraceptive method such as a broken condom. It cannot terminate an existing pregnancy by causing an abortion.  Taking some forms of emergency contraception can  be dangerous to the fetus and result in birth defects. Check with your doctor to find out which one is best for you.  The morning after pill will not protect against STD or HIV.  Do not take the morning after pill if you are a week late on your menstrual period.

Side Effects: nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, changes in your period, dizziness, and breast tenderness

How they work :

The Morning-After Pill—levonorgestrel  acts both to prevent ovulation or fertilization and possibly post-fertilization implantation into the uterine lining.
